ODIN Review

Long Term Review of HUCKTOFLAT ODIN Prototypes

These prototypes have been on my bike for the whole 2020 Gravity Enduro Series, and have smashed their way through most of the gnarliest trails in SEQ. I haven’t been gentle with them either, I wanted to be as hard on them as possible, because I wanted to find any potential issues with them.

These pictures show quite a few rock strikes. Even though the ODIN has been designed to try and avoid rock strikes, they are inevitable especially when they are on the bike of a rider who is a bit of a hack. The local trails that I ride most often are probably the rockiest in SEQ and while chasing KOM’s out there, they’ve had a few good wacks.

When a strike occurs, it is always a deflection, rather than a momentum robbing impact. This is due to the angled design and unique pedal cutaway.

Attention to detail on these pedals is on point. You can see that “button head” bolts are used, the rounded heads reduce impact possibility and severity compared to the larger socket head bolts used by other brands.

Differences between prototypes and production model:

You will notice in the pictures of the prototypes that there is one pin missing. The thread in that hole has been damaged from repeated impacts and will no longer hold a pin. To prevent that occurring, the thread contact area on the production model has been increased by 40% by increasing the thickness of the material in that section.

You will also notice there are two pin holes in the centre of the pedal body. During testing it was determined that pins in that location negatively affect the amount of grip, were removed and never replaced. These holes have been removed from the production model – doing so allowed the pedal to be strengthened but still remain the same weight.

A few other riders testing the prototypes before they had been put through their paces commented; “they feel really light, are you sure they’ll be strong enough”?

The answer is a resounding YES!

Feedback from other riders that have tried the ODIN:

“Hurry up and make these, I want some” (comment by rider using Nukeproof Horizons).

“The platform is slightly smaller than on mine, but I like these better” (comment by rider using Chromag Scarabs).

“My feet didn’t move on the pedals at all on the roughest downs.”
